Bad

I have used them in the past, they weren't terrible, but now they have been experiencing a TON of downtime and FTP speed is horrid. Stay away from them.

Worst hosting ever

Really - i started to use it as my test-ground for my projects, but what is happening with it now is unacceptable. The redirecting your links to some crapy Ads pages! Really. The tur off sending mails with php. The speed sucks as hell and phpMyAdmin don't usually work at all! 5x to try import database until it finaly accept my data. I'm really going elsewhere ... DONT USE IT!

Reduced functionality

I'm a reseller of byethost services and have to say that the free hosting is rapidly declining in functionality. My features list is being reduced by the month in line with byethost's, it used to be a great service until the features were abused so much by free users that the filtering of php functions became to restrictive to be workable and therefore withdrawn. Having said that. I'm happy to be a byet reseller and pride myself on the excellent support I give but however good it is I'm bound by the ever increasing hosting restrictions placed upon me. A common alternative for free hosting is with resellerpanel resellers of which there are many listed here but on the whole a poorer service IMO.

PHP sendmail OFF

One of the biggest advantages of Byethost was that they had the PHP sendmail option ON on their free hosting. Despite the spam filters which blocked a lot of the mails and that you had to wait for hours for an email to come, that option was somehow useful. From couple of weeks I noticed that none of the requests from my contact form are coming to me and couple of days I made some tests. Definitely sendmail is not working. Yes you have the backup option - phpmailer, but you cant get proper info from almost anywhere how exactly to use it in your forms and you have to write everything from scratch. For somebody probably that is easy, but for most of the users is not. Anyway - I post this just to say to the future users - be aware PHP sendmail is OFF on Byehost free hosting.

Byethost is good host.

Byethost is good host. The servers are fast, but sometimes I see my site http://xpost.in/ unable to load due to MySQL errors on a daily basis, which is easily solved by refreshing the page. However the host free plan is one of the best.

DannyNoel: Reviewer Country I just opened a free account on Byethost. It's very fast compared to some others. But... No ssi ! Anyone know of a workaround? FTP: they reset the connection all the time. Do they cut off the FTP connection also on the paid accounts ? Thanks for your replies! DN.

Byethost is lousy

Byethost is a scam. They let you easily sign-up and ftp and then take your site down in an unreasonable amount of time so that they can send you solicitations for upgrades. I also received too much spam (using a free email that I didn't use for anyone else) when I was subscribed to their services. DON'T USE THESE CREEPS. I have had free hosting on various sites since 2000. Angelfire, Atspace, Tripod, Geocities, Anzwers, Bravenet and more. Tripod and Bravenet suck now because of the banners that stay on the screen no matter where you scroll. Tripod is the worst because it is now a black, depressing banner that always stays on the top of the page no matter how far you scroll down. The others are still fine except Geocities is now gone. R.I.P. "original" Geocities (non-yahoo)

Dangerous Hosts

At bytehost they make you feel like a criminal.Everything looks fine until your website starts getting traffic.They will suspend your account without warning or notice.They literally force you to upgrade or else your remain suspended and you cannot go back to the free account even if your website has stopped taking too much bandwidth.The worst thing is they are very unfeeling when it comes to deleting your Files.They can delete your files without warning.Also,they suppress all people with negative comments.You will never find a negative comment on their forum review,because all the comments are made by bytehost resellers.

Byethost.com is the best host ever!

I am using their free plan & everything is just like paid hosting but i am getting tired of the vista panel they are offering in my opinion they should upgrade it! I do not means that the vista panel is bad its good and easy to use ;) now i am going to upgrade to a premium plan surely to monthly standard after it i will upgrade to monthly ultimate! & also the great thing of this company is that they never terminate any account without giving a backup & if they closed your account without any backup then you can get backup by submiting support ticket! this makes byet the no.1 choice. So if you wants a reliability,speed,value then choose byethost.com as your permanent host! Byet keep it up we all are very happy with you~

Don't Bother

I am coming up to my 2nd year as a Premium Client, and it can't end soon enough. I have been victim to extended downtimes, and usually at the worst times, complete data loss (seriously - everything... GONE) and inappropriate site redirection (Porn site anyone?) while they fumbled with their hardware. I've lost clients, and never an official apology. I dread seeking support, as I know I'll get some cookie cutter answer that doesn't even remotely relate to my question. Their forums are at least amusing, but be careful, else you be gagged if you complain too much, or shed some truth to how awful the service is. (Ever wonder why there's no bad reviews on their forum? Mmmm, makes you wonder.) What once was, is sadly no longer. Go elsewhere, anywhere, but run as far away as you can from Byethost (and stay away from their little resellers too - it's even worse!)

bad host

I used Byethost for about a year , everthing went good most of the time. They do a lot of redirecting, and are down alot. i got my website in good standing with the search engines. I was making alittle money of them. Then poof all my work gone. Don't waste your time...

BAD HOSTING

I thought of them as good hosting at the beginning and the host was fast and everything except the FTP. Anyway after working for countless hours on a new website they come and delete all my files. Luckily they didn't delete the database so I took a backup on my PC but it'll still take some time to recover the lost files. Also I made sure that I wasn't violated their terms. I don't recommend anyone this hosting.

Wait first!

No problem until you realise they redirect much of your web visits to their ads. I have tried so many of their resellers' free hosting and all of them led back to Byethost.....

Great Service

I've been using this service for 3 months and the only hitch I've noticed was when they were recently upgrading the SQL grid from 4 servers to 14 and improving an already excellent service. Of course there are extra features I would like, but your going to have to pay for them! The BIG BIG plus with these is the excellent support service and a forum of very helpful users.

lost data

have been served by byethost for 12 months originally on the free version then went onto the paid version due to server being down all the time,now there machine has crashed and taken my database with it NO PROBLEM i hear you say it will be stored on the back up server,oh no this has crashed to leaving my ????2000 databased web site without a system to run it!!! no hope of retrieval no hope of reboot thousands lost already and now have to have a new database built be very wary before you use this server as it will bite you on the arse one way or another and all you will get is a sorry!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

best free host

I've used the free services of byethost since March of this year to get familiar with web hosting and development stuff. Everything's working, no limitations except for curl (and space/bandwidth, of course). I finally have one site up and running with them and I'm considering upgrading to a paid account soon. This is one web host that truly rocks!

Best hosting ever

I've been working with websites for years, and I couldn't find a better free hosting server than byethost. It's a dream come true: No file type restriction, no file size limit, no banners, fast server and rarely went down, FTP, PHP, no forum postings needed, inactive account won't be deleted, always-available support. As I'm using PHP, I found that byethost allows many commands other hosts don't. I used to use awardspace, but PHP won't work well and they don't allow mp3s.

I found it!

Yes! After much searching, I found hosting where .htaccess and mod_rewrite work properly!! Also its realy no ads, and posting on their forum isnt required for registration.
